The average American consumes 126 pounds of potatoes each year

Potatoes need far less water to grow that wheat, rice and corn

“C” – Cucumber-they are related to the melon and squash families

Believed to have originated in India, Greece and Italy

Cultivated as early as 8,000 B.C. (Amazing!)

Cucumbers are 95% water and really do not have much nutritional value (except maybe hydration)

There are 31 people in the US with the last name and all live in North Carolina!

If you are allergic to pollen and/or aspirin do not eat cucumbers they can cause a terrible mouth itch! Who knew?

California produces the bulk of Broccoli sold in the USA

Broccoli is serve raw (cold) great veggie for dips, in salads, veggie platters

Many times it is used in casseroles (broccoli and cheese casserole) and many side dishes

A fun favorite is Beef n” Broccoli stir fry

Broccoli is a versatile vegetable

Do you own a waffle iron? Do you like waffles?

Waffles are eaten throughout the world particularly in Germany, Belgium, France, Netherlands, U. S. among other countries.

Waffles are served both sweet and savory

They were first developed in Northern Europe

Popular for breakfast,  supper, served with fruits, served with ice cream

Potato waffles are common in The UK (England) and Ireland

Nordic countries love them serve thin and sweet

Personally, I love them served all different ways

Do you like Avocados? Continuing on our Food trivia and fact journey; Did you know that California produces (grows) the most in the United States!

On Super Bowl Sunday in USA 50 million Avocados are used

The most popular is the HAAS Avocado in US and it is grown year round

Avocado is a fruit and to speed up ripening add to a brown paper bag for 2-4 days, they are climacteric and ripen after they are picked (like a banana does)

There are 500 varieties in the world

Each medium size avocado has 10 grams of fiber it is a super food!

Yellow Banana Squash

Yellow Banana Squash

Introduced to North America by Native Americans in the 16th Century

Originated from South America 4,000 years ago

Florida produces the bulk of domestic harvest

When steamed the squash has a mild sweeter flavor

Great sautéed in lemon juice and Olive oil and herbs as a side dish

Another great way to use this squash is to remove seeds and fill the cavity with cheese and bake

They are available year round in the USA

Also very reasonably priced

These gems are so low in calories

High in soluble fiber, minerals, anti-oxidants

Vitamins C, A, E

In The USA they are available year round

Always rinse them in cold water, drain on paper towels

Great to use in pies, cakes, sauces, jellies, jams, fruit salads and more…

They are one of my favorites! Yum!

It is the meat from  young (usually dairy) cattle under 3 months of age

Typically either sex male or female could be utilized; most times it is the male calves

Veal is used in quite a bit of Italian dishes (Veal parmigiana) Veal Cutlets, Veal Steaks

In many areas of the U.S. it can be quite costly per pound and other meat selections are made
